Logistics
Attractive logistics location
The Netherlands is centrally situated in Western Europe and has ideal preconditions to optimize European logistics activities, such as a skilled, flexible and multilingual workforce, logistics expertise and favourable customs and taxation procedures. In the Netherlands Attractiveness Survey 2005 of Ernst & Young, results show that international executives regard the Netherlands as the most attractive location for warehouse/logistics centres. Half of all American and Asian European logistics centres located in Europe are in the Netherlands.
Excellent logistics performance
The Amsterdam Airport Area plays a major role in the total logistics supply chain. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the third-largest airport in Europe in terms of cargo (1.6 million tonnes in 2008). Growth in airborne freight and the high level of service offered by Amsterdam Airport Schiphol have attracted a cluster of high-quality distribution and logistics companies. Synergies are created by an interconnected Airport-Seaport complex: the Port of Amsterdam is an important port complex, the fifth-largest in Northwestern Euorpe in terms of transhipment tonnage.
New developments
Due to the ever-increasing growth in freight, new plans are being developed to improve transport flows further in the Amsterdam Airport Area. One of these new plans is a dedicated freight lane as part of ACT, in which transport via road, rail and air are brought together between Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Aalsmeer and Hoofddorp.
